Working Principle

The Twin Screws Spiral Dewatering Unit builds upon the overlapping spiral design, incorporating a unique external drive system. It features a cylindrical filtration assembly formed by interstacking fixed and movable rings, through which two parallel spiral shafts run.

While the shafts convey sludge forward, the external drive and guide mechanism imparts a composite motion to the movable rings: a linear vertical movement at the top combined with a pendulum-like motion at the bottom. This innovative design allows the movable rings to operate without direct contact with the spiral shafts.

This contact-free movement ensures effective misalignment between the movable and fixed rings, maintaining clear filter gaps to prevent clogging. The result is a wear-free operation with no vulnerable parts, while simultaneously maximizing sludge shearing, enhancing conveyance, and reducing cake moisture content.

The core advantages are thus achieved: unclogged filter gaps, and zero contact, deformation, or wear between rings and shafts. The twin parallel shafts work synchronously to tumble and forward the sludge, preventing material wrapping around the shafts for smoother processing.

1. Mainly inorganic substances.

     The sludge is mainly composed of the sediment and algae debris in the raw water, as well as the hydroxides (such as aluminum hydroxide) formed by the coagulants (such as aluminum salts and iron salts) added during the purification process. The content of organic matter is relatively low.

2. High water content and poor dewaterability.

     Due to the strong hydrophilicity of the hydroxide, the sludge has good water retention properties and is difficult to be shaped, resulting in difficulties in concentration and dewatering.

3. Low-concentration sludge discharge characteristics

      The concentration of the sludge discharged is relatively low. For example, the solid content in the sludge discharged from the sedimentation tank is only 0.3% to 0.5%, which requires a large number of subsequent treatment facilities, thereby increasing investment and operation costs.

4. Wear and clogging risks

     The sand particles contained in the sludge can easily form a high-viscosity slurry, which is prone to clogging.
